hello there, many years ago me and my pals used to spend nearly every free bit of time ' .. on the bank', the railway line from Ombersley Road B12 to Moseley Tunnel B13, our actual den was situated amongst the original stumps of the once Brighton Road halt stop - between Brighton Road and Runcorn Road. When we played there in the late 50's and early 60's all that was left were the large 12" square pilings that the platform once sat-on .. needless to say we sat upon them too!. Nearly every driver that went past gave us a cheary wave. Once or twice I was taken home by the local police to recieve the customary clip-around-the-ear but still it did not deter us, during the week it was pure freight, (mainly 9F's) long rakes of coal wagons and the 'new' first generation container wagons with the odd car platforms carrying hundreds of new mini's cars and vans, on a Saturday we would get the occasional diverted passenger train which looked so out of place on that particular line between Camp Hill and Redditch. These were often hauled by the 'new' diesels which made us just look and stare at these new beasts .. excellent site, thank you very much for your efforts, brings back great memories!

Fantastic site, I have come across the site before, but have only just gone on broadband, so had more chance to look around the whole site without running up a massive phone bill. Wish I had gone on Brodband earlier. Great to see the old pictures and even see stations that I never knew existed such as Old Hill Halt and Pensnett.
Keep up the good work. |

Great Site. Shame Bournville Works trains were not mentioned. |
Webmaster:
Thanks for the comment Derek - as the site is about the railways themselves and not the trains that operate(d) on them, I have avoided going into details about works locos etc. However, there is a postcard shot showing Cadbury 1 on the Postcards pages HERE. |

MIDLAND METRO LINE 2: The second phase of the Midland Metro is now due for completion in either 2010 or 2011, and work begins before the end of next year. The Tipton Road overbridge in Dudley has already been rebuilt, and it will make use of the South Staffordshire Line between Wednesbury and Brierley Hill before carrying on a few hundred yards through the edge of the Merry Hill complex and finally terminating in Brierley Hill town centre. The goods train link between Round Oak and Walsall will also be re-opened; it closed in 1993.
MIDLAND METRO LINE 1: Most of the Midland Metro Line 1 was closed as a railway in 1972, but the stretch between Wednesbury and Bilston remained open until 1992 as a rail link for a large scrapyard near Bilston town centre. |

This is a very interesting website full of fascinating information about the railways in the midlands. It has given me plenty of knowledge about things which I previously had little or no knowledge of. |
